Nailsea Golf Croquet Competition

The annual Golf Croquet Competition was held on Monday. In the morning there were 8 entries for the level play version of the game. Jim Gregory won all 3 games in his block whilst David Hunt won 2. In the other block, teenager Ryan Cabble won all 3 games, followed by Mary Barnes with 2 wins. Jim will play Mary and Ryan will play David in the semi-finals.

In the afternoon, there was a much bigger field as 17 people entered the handicap play version where weaker players get extra turns. This time the Block winners were David Hunt, Anne Peek, Brenda Roynon and Coral Harrison. The runners-up were Chris Jackson, Jim Gregory, Rob Royffe and Mary Barnes. In the quarter-finals, Jim Gregory beat David Hunt 7-4, Anne Peek beat Chris Jackson 7-4 and Rob Royffe beat Coral Harrison 7-5. In the most exciting finish of the day, Brenda Roynon and Mary Barnes were on 6-all with the game hanging on the final hoop. Brenda cleared the hoop and claimed her place in the semi-final which will be against Anne Peek. Jim Gregory will play Rob Royffe.
