Table Tennis Competition

Last week seven members of Nailsea Croquet Club took part in their annual Table Tennis Competition. The format was a round robin with each match the best of three games. In the first round there was an exciting game between Marcus Evans and Peter Dyke, which Marcus won 13-11, 10-12, 11-9 in which both of Marcus's winning points were net cords. After twelve matches Marcus was in the lead with 4 wins, and Peter Dyke and Janet Dyke had both won three matches. At 3.45 at the adults were joined by 14-year old Ryan Cabble who beat Brian Roynon 11-5, 11-5, and Brenda Roynon by the same margin before stepping up a gear to beat Janet 11-1, 11-5. His next game, against Peter, was a really tremendous battle with both players playing at their best, and returning seemingly match-winning shots. Peter won the first game 11-8, but Ryan stepped up another gear to win the second 11-1 in a game with some tremendous rallies before taking the third game 11-7. He then beat Mary Barnes11-7, 11-6. In the third and fourth place play-off Peter beat Janet 13-11, 13-11 in another closely fought contest before Ryan beat Marcus 11-5, 11-7, 8-11, 11-9 in the best of five final.
