European Qualifying Competition at Nailsea Croquet Club ( 22/23 May 1999 )
Nailsea member, ALEX LEGGATE, came third in the Qualifying Round of the European Croquet Championships held at his home club over the weekend. His friend, ED DUCKWORTH (Bristol), did even better finishing second with four wins. Neither of them, however, could match Irishman, ED CUNNINGHAM, who won four games including wins over both the English players. The Irishman's impressive performance included three triple peels and one quadruple peel, while ED DUCKWORTH completed one triple. The biggest surprise of the tournament was when Bristol member, MARTIN MURRAY, playing for Scotland, beat ED CUNNINGHAM.
The Finals of the European Championships are being held in Jersey in September.
