South West Federation Golf Croquet Qualifying Round

On Saturday Nailsea Croquet Club held their qualifying competition for the South West Federation Golf Croquet Championship. KRISS CHAMBERS and J. DIXON won the doubles, winning all three games, though PETER DYKE and MARCUS EVANS gave them a run for their money losing by a single point on the deciding hoop having led by one hoop or been level throughout the game. KRISS also won the low handicap singles beating PETER, the only other competitor by four points. The high handicap singles was much more exciting and the result was uncertain until the final round. With one game still unplayed at the time of writing this report, four of the six competitors finished on three wins and may be joined by a fifth. However BOB SERGEANT made sure of victory on points with a convincing final round win.

Two narrow Defeats for Nailsea

Advanced Play League  Nailsea 4 Bristol 5

Nailsea's Advanced Play League team suffered a narrow defeat at Bristol on Sunday. Team captain, Alex Leggate, had a very disappointing day losing all three games. Nailsea's number two player, KRISS CHAMBERS, made only one mistake the whole day, but he too was beaten by two of the Bristol team. He did gain some compensation by beating Bristol's number one player by a maximum 26 points in his last game. However, Nailsea's number three player, J. DIXON, played superbly, winning all three games and completing a triple peel to win a very close final game. He gained 46 index points on his handicap. This was a very good performance against a strong Bristol team in superb form. Bristol have won this league every year since the league was formed.

Results

A. LEGGATE lost -14, -26, -16 K. CHAMBERS lost -25, -15TP, and won +4TP

J. DIXON won +16, +17, +4TP

The previous weekend ALEX had played superbly in the Championship of Surrey, winning 10 games out of 11, losing in the semi-finals to the World's number one croquet player. He completed two triples and his first quintuple peel and won the Plate event. He knocked another Nailsea player out of the main event in the second round. His Clubmate, who won 6 games out of 12, said he had never seen ALEX play so well.
