National Short Croquet Individual Championships - Nailsea First Round

Nailsea Croquet Club held their qualifying competition for the National Short Croquet Individual Championships last week.

Results: 1. GRETA STRINGER, 2 wins, +11 points, 2. DAVID MURPHY, 2 wins, +6 points, 3. PETER DYKE, 1 win, -8 points, 4. MARCUS EVANS, 1 win, -9 points. GRETA qualifies for the final at Solihull in September.


Nailsea & District Croquet Club Short Croquet Competition

The previous weekend Nailsea Croquet Club held their own Short Croquet Competition. The competition was held in four blocks, but it was not possible to complete two of the blocks because two competitors were also taking part in the Longman Cup.

Results so far:

Block A (incomplete) : 1. MARY BARNES, 3 wins, +25 points, 2. JOY WILYMAN, 2 wins, +3 points, 3. JOHN PATERSON, 1 win, -10 points, 4. ROY DYER, 0 wins, -18 points.

Block B : 1. ANDREW LOWDON, 2 wins, +16 points, 2. BOB SERGEANT, 2 wins, +4 points, 3. arthur GREEN, 2 wins +3 points, 4. MARGARET CLEVELAND-SMITH, 0 wins, -23 points.

Block C : 1. BERNARD WILSON, 3 wins, +24 points, 2. NICK CARTER, 2 wins, +6 points, 3. KATHY WALLACE, 1 win, +1 point, 4. BRIGIT CLAYTON, 0 wins, -31 points.

Block D (incomplete) : 1. MARCUS EVANS, 2 wins, +14 points, 2. SHEILA WARE, 1 win, +5 points, 3. FRAN McCORMACK, 0 wins, -19 points.


Open Championships - Hurlingham

KRISS CHAMBERS has been competing against some of the World's top croquet players in the British Open Championships last week. Unfortunately, he and PHIL CORDINGLEY (London) were knocked out in the second round of the doubles by a seeded pair, having had a bye in the first round.

In the singles he won his first round match, -17, +26, +17, but was knocked out by a seeded player in the second round, -26TP, -26TP.

In the consolation events KRISS and PHIL had a tough draw in the doubles which which they narrowly lost by 4 points, and in the two life singles he lost -26 and -26 STP without taking croquet.
