B League - Nailsea 2nd 4 Lansdown 1 (Wed 21st July 1999 at Nailsea)
Nailsea Croquet Club has had a busy week. Last week their 2nd 'B' league team had a good home win in a mid-week match against Lansdown. The Nailsea team got off to a good start winning both the morning games and they won two of the three afternoon games. This was a tremendous win for a team composed entirely of last year's beginners and takes them to the top of the league table.

B League - Nailsea 2nd 3 Taunton Deane 2 (Sun 25th July 1999 at Taunton)
On Sunday the team had to beat Taunton to stay at the top of the table. They got off to a bad start with two narrow defeats in the morning, but they recovered well winning all three afternoon games on the notorious Taunton lawns. The team now has to wait for other results to see if they stay at the top of the table and qualify for the semi-finals in September or whether they finish in second place to Bath, the only team to have beaten them this season.

Advanced-Play League
Nailsea 3 Cheltenham 2 (Sun 25th July 1999 at Cheltenham)
Nailsea were without their top player when they visited Cheltenham on Sunday. 17-year old KRISS CHAMBERS captained a young Nailsea team against a very experienced Cheltenham team whose average age was 40 years older and included a former British test team player.
The Nailsea team started well with KRISS partnered by J. DIXON winning the doubles in 45 minutes. The singles game looked like taking a long time and was pegged down to allow the afternoon games to start.
In the afternoon J. DIXON completed a triple peel to win convincingly, but TERRY BALLARD was defeated. KRISS, however, had a much tougher and more exciting game. His opponent scored nine hoops and KRISS missed the lift shot. The Cheltenham player attempted a triple peel, completing two of the peels, but breaking down at rover (the last hoop) letting KRISS in. KRISS made a nine-hoop break and his opponent missed the lift shot. KRISS did a twelve-hoop break, taking his second ball to the peg. This time his opponent hit the lift shot and pegged out KRISS's forward ball. KRISS shot and missed. His opponent ran rover, failed to peg out one ball, but pegged out the other. KRISS's remaining ball was in corner one. He shot at the ball by the peg and hit, rolled up to his next hoop, which he scored, rushed to penultimate, but blobbed the hoop. His opponent shot and missed. KRISS ran penult and layed-up in front of rover. His opponent dribbled to the peg. KRISS ran rover and shot at the peg, 13 yards away, but missed, and his opponent pegged out to win by a single point.
With the score two-all the pegged down game was resumed and TERRY won a close game.
