Nailsea Croquet Club August Handicap Tournament 14-15 August 1999

Nailsea Croquet Club held their annual August Handicap Tournament over the weekend. There were a total of eighteen entries including visitors from Ramsgate, Winchester, Plymouth, Stroud, Bath and Bristol as well as six members of the home club. The event was run as a Hands Ladder, a flexible format which allows players to play as many or as few games as they wish. A total of 47 games were played and two players managed to complete eight games each. Five of the Nailsea players played well and at the end of the first day four of the top five places were held by Nailsea members, NICK CARTER, GRETA STRINGER, J. DIXON and DAVID MURPHY. On Sunday DAVID had two wins and one loss, NICK lost to an 18 year old Bath player and then lost by a single point to J. DIXON, who notched up a total of five wins and three losses over the weekend. Having lost one game on Saturday, PAT LONG won all her games on Sunday and finished in second place. However, the outright winner was GRETA who played six games, winning all of them, and she gained a handicap reduction from 16 to 14.

6. J. DIXON, 5 wins out of 8, rating 55


National Junior Croquet Championships

The finals of the National Junior Croquet Championships were also held at Nailsea over the weekend. The best of three match between KRISS CHAMBERS (Nailsea) and RACHEL SCOTT (Bristol). The games were played on Saturday and Sunday evenings as lawns became available from the weekend tournament.

KRISS won the Championships with two triple peels, +25TP, +26TP to retain the title he has now won a record four times.
