South West Federation Golf Croquet Championships - Qualifying Round at Bristol
On Wednesday, 2 August, Bristol Croquet Club held their qualifying round of the South West Federation Golf Croquet Championships. Heavy rain in the morning made the lawns slow and two visitors from Nailsea, PETER DYKE and MARCUS EVANS, coped better with the wet conditions than the home players winning all five of their doubles games to qualify for the Finals at Nailsea on September 17. MARIAN HILTON and GWYN DOYLE were runners up in the doubles.
In the afternoon the lawns quickly dried out and the Bristol members gained their revenge with MARIAN HILTON winning the low handicap singles, beating PETER with some incredibly long hoops, and one of this year's Bristol beginners, BRIAN BASSETT, beating MARCUS one of the high handicap blocks. BRIAN beat the winner of the other high handicap block to qualify for the Finals.
Qualifiers:
| Doubles: | PETER DYKE & MARCUS EVANS |
| Low handicap singles: | MARIAN HILTON |
| High handicap singles: | BRIAN BASSETT |
