Kriss comes third in Cheltenham Level Play Tournament

18 year-old KRISS CHAMBERS from Nailsea came third in defence of the Cheltenham Level Play title he won last year. He was playing in the Advanced Section and started well winning all four games on Saturday, including a good win against the lowest handicapped player in the tournament.

On Sunday he won his first game, but he lost his concentration in the second game allowing an old rival, MICHAEL BLACKWELL from Wolverhampton to beat him. He made amends by winning the next game +26 with his fourth triple peel of the tournament. He looked all set to win his final game of the day, but had an eight-yard peg-out. The forward ball was heading for the peg, when it deviated from its course and missed by millimetres, while the backward ball continued on its path and hit the peg. He never got back into the game and lost to DAVID MAGEE (Cheltenham) by one point. On Bank Holiday Monday he lost his first game, but won the next two to come third overall.

BLACKWELL won the tournament and MAGEE was runner-up. Although KRISS won 8 games out of 11 he gained only four index points on his handicap. He gained some consolation, however, by winning the prize for the player with the most triple peels in the tournament, with a total of five.

Results:

Saturday: KRISS CHAMBERS won +20TP, +25, +25TP, and +14

Sunday: KRISS won +18TP, lost –10, won +26TP, lost –1

Monday: KRISS lost –24, won +13, +5TP
