National Short Croquet Finals, Intermediate league semi-final & All England Area final
Members of Nailsea Croquet Club had a busy and successful weekend. On Saturday the Club was taking part in the Finals of the National Short Croquet Team Event at Nailsea and the semi-finals of the South West Federation Intermediate League at Bath. Captains of both teams wanted to use the same players and, with some members unavailable, it was difficult to raise teams for both events.

One member who was not available to play for either of the Nailsea teams was 15 year-old MARCUS EVANS, who was playing in the All England Area Final at Bristol over the weekend. On Saturday he won his first two games comfortably and had his handicap reduced from 14 to 12 before his third game, which he also won easily. He continued his winning form on Sunday with two more wins to win the block, and played the winner of the other block, FRANCES RANSOM (Bristol). He played an excellent game against FRANCES, one of the top lady players in the country and beat her by 26 to win the Area Title and gain a further handicap reduction to 10. He goes forward to the Finals at Nottingham on 16 and 17 September.
