Nailsea Croquet Club Golf Croquet Competition

On Saturday, Nailsea Croquet Club held the preliminary stages of its Golf Croquet Competitions. This was a popular event with nine pairs entering the doubles and twenty entries for the singles. The doubles was run as a four round Swiss competition and ARTHUR GREEN and MAUREEN MURPHY, PETER DYKE and BERYL GRIFFITHS and ADRIENNE GRIFFITHS and JOHN PATERSON all finished with three wins, while MIKE PETERS and BRIAN PHELPS and DAVID MURPHY and SHEILA WARE each had two wins. ARTHUR and MAUREEN, PETER and BERYL and ADRIENNE and JOHN will go forward to the semi-finals in October. A play-off between MIKE and BRIAN and DAVID and SHEILA will decide the fourth semi-finalists.

In the singles ten players have been playing throughout the season and the leaders are ARTHUR GREEN with 7 wins out of 8 games and BOB SERGEANT with 7 wins out of 9. Close behind is GRETA STRINGER with 6 wins out of 8. The remaining ten players played in two blocks of five. PETER DYKE won Block A with 3 wins out of 4 and MARCUS EVANS won Block B with 4 wins. PETER and MARCUS will go forward to the semi-finals and will meet the top two of the ten players who have been playing throughout the season.

This Saturday Nailsea will be playing in the final of the Intermediate League against Plymouth at Cheltenham and on Sunday the Nailsea Club will be hosting the final of the Advanced Qualifier League between Budleigh Salterton and Parkstone.

Over the weekend MARCUS EVANS will be taking part in the Finals of the All England Handicap.
