Nailsea & District Croquet Club Finals Weekend

Last weekend Nailsea and Croquet Club held their Finals Weekend. Games were played throughout Saturday and Sunday, interrupted only briefly on Sunday afternoon when the lawns were waterlogged by a heavy downpour. One of the most entertaining finals was the Handicap One-ball Competition in which ANDREW LOWDON kept on hitting 20 yard and longer shots, but his hoop-running did not match his hitting-in and, with the lead changing from one player to another, NICK CARTER eventually beat him.

The results of the Finals were as follows:

Open Singles (Bakers World Travel Cup): GEOFF HUGHES beat ARTHUR GREEN +13.

Advanced Play Competition (Roy Dyer Cup): PETER DYKE beat JOHN WALLACE +11.

C Class Level Play Block: MARCUS EVANS beat DAVID MURPHY +19.

Ladies Singles: GRETA STRINGER beat PAT LONG +10

GRETA STRINGER & JOHN PATERSON won the Speed Croquet (Doubles) Competition and PETER DYKE & VIOLET DELMAS were runners-up.

High Bisquers Competition: VIOLET DELMAS beat BRIGIT CLAYTON +11.

MARY BARNES won the One-ball (Level Play) Competition.

One-ball (Handicap) Competition: NICK CARTER beat ANDREW LOWDON +3.

Short Croquet Competition: MARCUS EVANS beat PETER DYKE +8.

Golf Croquet Open Doubles: DAVID MURPHY & SHEILA WARE beat ADRIENNE GRIFFITHS & JOHN PATERSON +1.

Golf Croquet (Level Play) Singles: PETER DYKE beat SANDRA PATERSON +6.

Golf Croquet (Handicap) Singles (John Brown Challenge Cup):

ARTHUR GREEN beat GRETA STRINGER +3.

Beginners Competition (Sportscene Beginner’s Shield):

TOM HART beat LINDA SHAW +10.

For various reasons it was not possible to complete the following competitions over the weekend – Open Handicap Doubles, Over 50s semi-final and final, D Class Level Play Final, and the Junior Singles Final. They will either be completed before the end of the month or at the beginning of next season.

The Club also has a very active young junior section and they played a number of competitions throughout the season with the following results:
