SWF Intermediate League

Good Win by Nailsea

Nailsea and District Croquet Club’s team got off to an excellent start to the new season in defence of the South West Federation Intermediate League title they won last year. They beat Kington Langley at home by five games to two.

Both teams had difficulty in finding form in the morning and all three games went to time, but Nailsea won the doubles and each team won a singles game.

In the afternoon, Nailsea’s captain, GRETA STRINGER, was on excellent form and soon notched up a 24-point win. The other three singles games took a lot longer, but eventually PAT LONG beat her opponent by 12 to secure the match and in doing so she gained a handicap reduction from 10 to 9. Having been ahead for most of the game, BERNARD WILSON was eventually overhauled and went down by six points in a very close game. In the only afternoon game to go to time GEOFF HUGHES won a close contest by five points.

Results:

GRETA STRINGER & BERNARD WILSON won +10(T)

PAT LONG won +14(T) & +12

GEOFF HUGHES lost –7(T) & won +5(T)

GRETA STRINGER won +24

BERNARD WILSON lost -6
