NDCC One-ball Competitions & SWF Intermediate League
One-ball Competitions
On Saturday Nailsea Croquet Club played the preliminary stages of their one-ball competitions. The level play event was played in the morning and the block winners were JULIAN MARSHALL, a newcomer to the club, and GRETA STRINGER and the runners-up were KATHY WALLACE and PETER DYKE. In the handicap event played in the afternoon, four competitors in Block A finished with three wins each. Of the games played between these four players, MARCUS EVANS and DAVID MURPHY had won two games each and as MARCUS had beaten DAVID, MARCUS was the winner and DAVID was runner-up. In Block B PETER DYKE and JULIAN MARSHALL won four games each, but PETER beat JULIAN to win the block. Two people from each block go forward to the semi-finals.
Intermediate League
Nailsea 6 Bath 1
On Sunday Nailsea Croquet Clubs Intermediate team had a convincing home win against Bath. In the morning GRETA STRINGER and MARY BARNES won the doubles and BERNARD WILSON won one of the two singles, but GEOFF HUGHES narrowly lost the other one.
In the afternoon, NICK CARTER replaced MARY and all four Nailsea players won the afternoon singles games.
Having won all their games this season, Nailseas Intermediate team stay at the top of their league table with only one game left to play before the semi-final play-offs.
Results:
GRETA STRINGER & MARY BARNES beat DENISE JOHNS & CECILE LEACH +5(T)
BERNARD WILSON beat MIKE BROWN +14 & BOB WHITAKER +18
GEOFF HUGHES lost to BOB WHITAKER 1(T) and beat DENISE JOHNS +22
GRETA STRINGER beat CECILE LEACH +9
NICK CARTER beat MIKE BROWN +14

In a mid-week friendly match Nailsea drew 3-all away at Wells Palace Croquet Club.
