NDCC Speed Croquet Competition

Twelve competitors entered Nailsea Croquet Club’s Speed Croquet Competition on Sunday. This is a doubles competition in which stronger players partner weaker players and in each game each team is allowed only 25 minutes on court. All six teams played each other and eight of the fifteen games were completed within the time limit.

Four pairs finished with three wins, so the managers considered the games between these four – RICHARD DELMAS & JULIAN MARSHALL and GEOFF HUGHES & BRIGIT CLAYTON had won two of these games while NICK CARTER & VIOLET DELMAS and PAT LONG & JOHN PATERSON had each won one. As RICHARD & JULIAN had beaten GEOFF & BRIGIT they were declared the winners. Having narrowly lost their first two games GEOFF & BRIGIT had made a remarkable comeback to gain second place. PETER DYKE & LINDA SHAW also made a good recovery, having lost their first three games they won the last two, including a win over RICHARD & JULIAN in the final round, but it was only good enough to gain them fifth place.

Results:

  1. JULIAN MARSHALL & RICHARD DELMAS, 3 wins
  2. GEOFF HUGHES & BRIGIT CLAYTON, 3 wins
  3. NICK CARTER & VIOLET DELMAS, 3 wins
  4. PAT LONG & JOHN PATERSON, 3 wins
  5. PETER DYKE & LINDA SHAW, 2 wins
  6. MARY BARNES & SHEILA WARE, 1 win.
