North of England Championships

MARCUS EVANS and PETER DYKE travelled to Bowdon Croquet Club (Greater Manchester) for the North of England Championships.

PETER won the C-class Advanced Play event with 4 wins out of 5 and amazingly MARCUS & PETER won the Advanced Doubles also.

The unseeded pair were considered rank outsiders with a combined handicap of 6½ and they beat opponents with aggregate handicaps of 5½, 2, 1 and –½ in that order with winning margins of +7, +6, +21TP(EVANS) and +5, MARCUS finishing with a superb half-jump shot to complete the rover peel and pegging out to win the final.

The success was due to superb play by MARCUS throughout, with PETER playing the occasional inspired turn when it really mattered.
