Nailsea May Weekend Handicap Tournament

The cold wet weather did not deter the competitors in Nailsea Croquet Club’s annual May Weekend Handicap Tournament. The entry was limited to sixteen players this year, eight being from the host club with visitors from Cornwall, East Dorset (2), Cheltenham, Stroud, and Bristol (3).

The event was run as a Knockout and a consolation Hands Ladder. Fortunately the weather improved on Sunday in time for the semi-finals.

The four semi-finalists were SHEILA CLABBURN (handicap 10) from Bristol and BERNARD WILSON (10), PETER DYKE (7) and KATHY WALLACE (16), all from Nailsea. BERNARD beat SHEILA by 12 and PETER beat KATHY by the same margin. In the final BERNARD beat PETER by 13.

In the Hands Ladder JULIE HUDSON (10, East Dorset) was the winner with a final rating of 66. MARY BARNES (14, Nailsea) was runner-up, rating 62, and TONY BACKHOUSE (8, Cornwall) and KATHY WALLACE were joint third each with a final rating of 58.
