English National Golf Croquet Singles Championship Heats

On Sunday Nailsea Croquet Club held the South West Region Heats of the English National Golf Croquet Singles Championship.

There were only four competitors from this region – Peter Dyke and Marcus Evans from Nailsea, Kevin Ham from Dyffryn, near Cardiff, and Ian Megaw from Swindon.

In the first round Peter beat Kevin 7-6 and Marcus beat Ian by the same margin.

In the second round Marcus beat Kevin and Ian beat Peter both winning 7-5.

In the final round Peter played well, running long angled hoops, and had a surprise win over Marcus by 7-4, while Kevin beat Ian 7-5.

The final result was Peter Dyke and Marcus Evans 2 wins each, Kevin Ham and Ian Megaw 1 win each.

As Peter had beaten Marcus he was the winner by the “who beat whom” rule and qualifies for the final at Parkstone, Dorset in July.

Marcus and Peter also qualified in the doubles.
