Speed Croquet Doubles Competition

In the first Club Competition of the season, twelve players from Nailsea and District Croquet Club sprinted round the lawns playing Speed Croquet. Always mindful of the clock, the Doubles pairs roqueted, croqueted and ran hoops, all at breakneck speed.

Violet Delmas and David Hunt were the overall champions after winning all of their three games. Their last game, against Jim Field and Rob Royffe was a nail-biting thriller with every second counting. The clock sped round but Violet kept her cool and ran the winning hoops.

There were three pairs with two wins but Adrienne Griffiths and Geoff Hughes were declared runners up, mainly by virtue of a splendid victory by 12 points in one of their games. Newcomer Brian Roynon put in an excellent performance under the guidance of partner Richard Delmas.

An age gap of nearly sixty years separated the youngest and oldest players but fun was had by all in the Spring sunshine.
